Reflection on ICT

ICT plays a vital role in teaching and learning. It makes the teaching and learning easier and effective. In the past, the text book and the chalk board were only our teaching learning materials due to which our knowledge remained in the box. There were no other sources of information. Now, with the advancement in the technology, we are able to shift from teacher dominated classroom to the student centered that provide students with an opportunity to explore beyond what has been taught in the class.

After joining Paro college of Education in the year 2015, I found Power point presentation to be the most effective tool in teaching and learning. Every teaching and lessons were delivered through power point presentation since our first class till now. At the beginning, when we were asked to prepare a presentation through power point, I panicked and worried to death because I didn’t have any idea about power point presentation. I didn’t have any idea about animations, use of multimedia and other important factors. As a result the presentation was plane, unattractive and could not gain the audience attention effectively.

However, after learning about the design principles and with the help of FIT (101), now I can make the power point presentation effectively. I can make use of multimedia, animations and graphics to involve the audience effectively in the presentation. This knowledge and skill made my work easier during my teaching practicum in the year 2018. I was able to take my students around the world by just sitting in the class through this power point presentation. For instance like I was able to make my students realize the importance of food and water through the video I have included in my presentation (https://youtu.be/0ilDx1xjBhc).

On top of that, college life is always to do with assignment. For that we need to have good searching skills otherwise we would get lost in the middle of the information. At the beginning, when we were asked to do an assignment for the first time, my assignment was like trash bin with the information all jumbled up most of which are irrelevant to the topic. But now through the continue usage of ICT, I can choose most relevant and authentic sources and cite the sourcing and most importantly analyze the information. In a nut shell ICT helped me to develop my search skills and evaluate resources on the internet.
